OT Security and IEC 62443 training at GACL

Abhisam’s India office is pleased to announce that they successfully conducted two OT Security  IEC 62443 training workshops at Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) at their Vadodara and Dahej manufacturing sites.

If you would like to organize a similar event for your industrial sites that utilize OT systems, please get in touch with us OR attend one of our public OT Security training events that will start from 2nd August 2023. The first one takes place on 2nd August 2023 at Mumbai, register for the OT Security and IEC 62443 training workshop here.

What are OT systems? Why is OT Security important?

As you probably know, OT systems are short for Operational Technology and include Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) including DCS, PLC, SCADA and SIS. The IEC 62443 standard is currently the primary go-to standard for OT cybersecurity. It has been adopted as IS 62443 in India and is now applicable to all Indian installations that have OT systems.

What is IEC 62443?

The IEC 62443 is a set of standards and technical reports jointly developed by ISA (International Society of Automation-formerly known as the Instrument Society of America) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). Some parts have been developed by ISA and some parts by IEC. Not all parts have been published so far. This a horizontal standard and can be applied across a wide range of industries and businesses, not just manufacturing or Industrial Automation and Safety systems.

Which IEC 62443 parts did the training cover?

This intensive OT security workshop covers the following topics, in addition to the IEC 62443 published parts.

    1. Introduction to Operational Technology (OT) systems.
    2. Differences between OT security and IT security.
    3. Basic Concepts of OT security- Threats, Vulnerabilities & Attacks
    4. Case Study of an OT attack
    5. Introduction to CSMS (Cyber Security Management System)
    6. Carrying out an OT Security Risk Assessment

Not all parts of IEC 62443 have been published, so the training included only the parts that have been published till date and are  currently applicable to industrial installations with OT systems.

The OT Security IEC 62443 training covered the following parts:

      •  IEC 62443-1-1
      •  IEC 62443-2-1
      •  IEC 62443-2-3
      •  IEC 62443-2-4
      •  IEC 62443-3-1
      • IEC 62443-3-2
      •  IEC 62443-3-3
      •  IEC 62443-4-1
      •  IEC 62443-4-2
